Structure of a Hemocytometer

• Counting Chambers: The hemocytometer consists of a thick glass slide with two mirrored, gridded chambers. Each chamber contains a specific volume of liquid, making it easier to calculate the number of cells per unit volume.
• Grid: The counting area is etched with a grid of squares, typically 9 large squares, each of which is subdivided into smaller squares. The most commonly used grid size is a 1 mm x 1 mm square, with a depth of 0.1 mm.

Procedure for Use

3. Microscope Observation: Use a microscope to observe and count the cells within the grid.
4. Calculate Concentration: Use the formula to calculate the concentration of cells in the original sample.
